Yesterday I was on a two-hour drive.

I tuned into a podcast. The topic? Growth. It’s a podcast I’m usually all for. I’m usually scribbling down mental notes, nodding along. I love this stuff normally.

But yesterday, for some reason, I just wasn’t into it. I found myself cynical, tired, and frustrated with the theme of the conversation.

It centered around growth… chasing growth. I found myself going down that road many times, each time I do I find myself walking down the road to burn out.

Working full-time and creating part-time, it’s hard to spot the signs and easy to experience a full-on collision with burnout that takes you by surprise.

Here’s how I avoid it like the plague (and keep myself focused on the stuff that matters).

Establish your core belief system

The reason I write is totally selfish.

I’ve got all these thoughts running around in my mind, writing is a way of capturing those thoughts and wrestling to understand them. Frankly, there is so much of this world that I don’t understand.
