Why Quiet People Win — Stop Seeking Permission and Start Doing the Work

Please stop asking successful people for their advice

“Hi, I’ve written 1 article on Medium and I spent 3 hours writing it and I got zero views, am I doing something wrong? Shall I give up now?”

Every time I read comments like that I want to curl up in a ball and get away from the world. It just projects everything wrong with success culture, grit, determination and constantly seeking guidance from those more successful than you. It annoys me so much because it’s cheap and it’s lazy. There I said it, asking other people for advice when you haven’t tried is cheap and lazy.

It’s the easy way out and it’s not going to push you forward. It’s going to stop you from doing what you’re meant to be doing if you want to succeed, but you know that. It’s doing the work. For the purposes of my morning frustrations, it’s worth unpicking the sentences above. Essentially it centres around avoiding doing the work and seeking permission.

It’s the easy way out and not the way to success.

1. You Haven’t Tried Yet
