How to write when your bad mood dictates your day

Writing is a liar. One moment it all roses and smiley faces and the next day, the very next day, it can be the complete opposite. You feel lied to. You were riding high on good writing vibes to be knocked down the very next day, left with nothing to say. It obviously sours your mood but could a bad mood be the perfect remedy for a blank page?

Bad moods are funny. As a writer (or a pretend writer) mood can have a huge impact on your output. Being in a bad mood is rather concerning for a productivity.

Today I woke up in a bad mood. It was an hour later than I wanted to, I was cold, tired and my head was banging. I didn’t want to get up and I definitely didn’t want to get up to write 1,000 words as I promised myself I would. Inevitably I came up with all the excuses under the sun why I shouldn’t write.

  • Nobody’s listening.
  • I can’t think of anything to say.
  • What’s the point in all this anyway.

Ambition is a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it means you keep striving but on the other hand, it leaves little room for an excuse like the above. They don’t hold much weight because they are just excuses. And as you get more ambitious, you get less patient with your own…
