Opinions kill dreams but they don’t have to.

For a long time I’ve subscribed to the notion that if you don’t want to do something, you shouldn’t have to. Now before I start, I’m fully aware of the fact that that sentence can come across as brattish. As if ‘not wanting to’ is a good enough reason to not do something. I get it. I used to think the same too.

Here’s the thing: one day, you will die. Sorry for the abruptness there but it’s a point that needs to be made. It’s a point that too often gets missed. You’re going to die soon so you may as well get used to feeling discomfort if you want to live a happy life.

Lately, I’ve lost my way a little. It happens. I’d feel myself getting caught up in other people’s opinions, other people’s feelings, other people’s views. And sure, it’s good to consult other people, the people you like of course, especially on the decisions that mean a lot to you. Those folk, if they have your best interest at heart, will give you their honest opinion, which should help form yours.

I distinctly remember having this feeling when I started writing. I was scared. My mindset was all wrong and consequently, I would worry about things that never happened. Instead, I’d need to learn to live life on my own…
