We all have the capability to do big, meaningful work. To fill our souls, to make a noise, to fill our cup.

But that daily ambition often doesn’t stand up against the heaviness of the morning.

Years ago, I could never muster up the energy to get up and get on with the day. I told myself I was motivated, that I wanted to do my big, meaningful work, that I was ambitious, but the reality was, I wasn’t that motivated.

I was starting to lose hope. I was giving up, quietly throwing in the towel because it was all just a little bit too hard. It felt a little too uncomfortable. I was a little too afraid of trying.

Here’s how I slowly fought back against that feeling.

Big audacious goals serve nobody

I know, I know — call the self-help police for I have sinned.

People tell you to dream big, shoot for the stars, land on the moon — all that good stuff. But the reality is, well, at least in my case, every time I dream big, I end up getting overwhelmed by the prospect of the thing and I fall flat on my face.
