A Simple, Quiet Life
The normal, everyday

I sit and write in the pitch black.
Coffee to my left, books to my right. A little heater warms my side. It quiet, I make the silence louder by wearing noise-cancelling headphones.
This is the most peace I’ll feel all day. The quiet, still existence of my life. Soon the world will take over. The work, the noise, the expectations. They’ll come flooding in.
But for now, this quiet darkness is my safe place, my stillness, my safety.
Sometimes it’s hard to ignore your emotions
I sit here every morning. Sometimes fearful, sometimes hopeful — each day I try to write through them all. To write through my feelings to get to a place better than when I started.
To exist through the work. To write. To explore my mind.
Its funny, you’d think doing a thing over and over would mean monotony, you’d feel the same things over and over again. You’d get bored. For me, I’ve found the more I write, the more different the daily experience is.
It’s hard to ignore your emotions, fear is the hardest.
The trouble is, often we don’t know why we feel these things, where it comes from, how it started, how to stop it. But there is beauty in the ability to feel. It’s a simple life to feel, to not hide, to embrace.
The power of perception
Yesterday I was reading. I found myself racing through the pages so I could hit my target pages for that day and then move on to my next task. It struck me, as I was reading through, that I was barely learning anything.
I could hardly remember what I’d just read because I was too busy racing through trying to tick a box.
It’s funny, reading is one of my greatest joys but yet, I’ve taken away the fun by making it about targets and productivity. Your perception and expectations can kill a joyful experience.
It’s weird, isn’t it? Just by thinking a certain way you can completely change an experience — the power of the mind.
